A Friendship Born of Fate

When God was deciding
Who would be born, back in 1953,
He knew I would need extra support
So He paired you up with me.
In an act of Grace and wisdom
He made us sisters of the soul.
To provide support for one another
In everything life would hold.
And while our lives unfolded separately
In very different ways.
They were at the same time parallel
In essence, theme, and phase.
We laugh and dance together
In times of celebration;
And we hold hands and pray together
Through times of tribulation.
In times when either of us needs support,
Or in times when we need only space,
Somehow between us we know which one
And offer it to one another with Grace.
We’ve helped each other to grow in faith,
Shared our imperfect love of God.
We’ve even seen some miracles
Leaving us shocked, amazed and awed.
I am thankful for my journey,
More so for my travel mate.
There is no question in my mind
Ours is a friendship born of fate.
For, when God was deciding
Who would be born, in 1953,
He imagined a fish and a twin as friends
And He made them you and me.
